To mount a Gaming disk image and install the game, you'll need a virtual drive.
Q:First, what is a virtual drive?
A:A virtual drive in computing is a drive that to the operating system appears to be an ordinary physical disk drive, with disc images substituted for disc reading hardware through the use of software called a disk emulator.
1-You'll need a software called Alcohol 120% or Deamon Tools the two softwares are popular. In this tutorial I will be using Alcohol 120%.
2-During the installation of Alcohol 120%, you will be asked to create one virtual drive. That is a requirement to mount the disk image.
3-After the installation open up the software, you should have a virtual drive below. My virtual drive is drive "X".
4-You can change the details of your virtual drive or add more than one virtual drive in "Options". To do that, click on "View", then "Options"

5-To mount an image, right click on your Virtual drive, click on "Mount".
6-You will need to explore your computer and locate the image you want to mount.
7-After you located the image, click "Open". The game is ready for installation.
8-You can close Alcohol 120%, and begin the installation. The mounted image will also appear in "My Computer" as a "Virtual drive".
What Game images can Alcohol 120% mount on your virtual drive? You will see mainly 2-3 different types of game images created by Alcohol or other software.

This is a very thorough tutorial. I used this software back in the day and having your write-up for it would have eased the frustration process a bit.
I will warn some though: when I tried loading this on my new Vista, I continuously got the Blue Screen of Death. Might just be me (most stories of Vista are ‘just me’ stories), but I thought I’d share.
However I was successful with installing Alcohol 52% onto that same Vista. And the steps for mounting disc images are the same for 52% as they are for 120%.
Not sure what version you attempted to install, but I've installed 1.9.xxx several times on Vista x32, and x64 with zero issues.
Perhaps you've got a bad version, or corrupt files.
